Jupiter Island (AP) — Tiger Woods says he has had arthroscopic surgery on his left knee to repair what he describes as minor cartilage damage.

The surgery was not believed to be serious, and Woods says on Twitter he expects to return to practice.

This is the fifth surgery to his left knee — one more surgery than Woods has had on his back — dating to 1994 when he was at Stanford. His agent at Excel Sports, Mark Steinberg, says the knee had been irritating him over the last few months.

Woods had the surgery last week during the Tour Championship. Woods, who won the Masters in April for his 15th major, did not finish among the top 30 in the FedEx Cup who qualified for the final event at East Lake.
