Bipartisanship: AOC Finds Common Ground with Ben Carson, Ted Cruz

Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) found rare common ground with two conservative Republicans on Thursday, agreeing with Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) on banning members of Congress from lobbying, and with Secretary of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Ben Carson on adopting a more lenient policy toward residents in legal trouble.

Number of Registered Lobbyists Falls 14% in 2017

The number of federally registered political lobbyists has fallen by 14 percent thus far in 2017 from the 2016 total. However, based on data provided by the non-partisan OpenSecrets.org, spending by lobbyists is on track to rise by about 3 percent in 2017.

Darling: A Sickening Example of Astroturf Politics and 9/11 Victims 

Astroturf politics is when a group pays an organization or K Street lobbying firm to send calls, letters, emails, and people to town hall meetings to pressure members to vote in a certain manner. The goal is to present the appearance of a spontaneous movement and to have people communicating with a member of Congress on an issue in a way that makes it appear to be a popular movement. But these individuals are frauds and they are being paid to fool senators or representatives.
