Texas Looks at Creating State-Level Immigration Laws

The Texas Legislature could look into new state-level immigration laws to give police more authority in immigration-related cases. During a meeting of the Texas House’s State Affairs Committee, Texas Deputy Attorney General Brantley Starr told legislators they could create state-level immigration laws if they were careful to carve out unique areas that did not conflict or step on federal immigration laws.

Hannity to Texas Governor: ‘Good Job in Texas, I’ll Tell You That!’

Texas Governor Greg Abbott was interviewed by Sean Hannity and the nationally syndicated radio talk show host told Abbott – “Good job in Texas, I’ll tell you that!” Hannity commended Abbott for his tough stance on sanctuary cities, his lawsuit against the Obama administration’s amnesty program, and putting a halt to Obama’s amnesty during his tenure as President. Senate Democrats Block Bill Targeting Sanctuary Cities

The legislation would restrict federal funds and grants to sanctuary cities and channel the funding to jurisdictions that comply with immigration authorities. It would also affirm local law enforcement’s right to comply with immigration officials and establish a mandatory minimum sentence for criminal immigrants convicted of illegally re-entering the U.S.

McConnell Sets Up Vote On Bill Targeting Sanctuary Cities

The Stop Sanctuary Policies and Protect Americans Act, introduced by Sen. David Vitter (R-LA), will skip the committee process and go directly to the Senate floor. The bill restricts federal funding for sanctuary cities, or jurisdictions that do not comply with federal immigration authorities. It also provides legal protections for localities that do comply with federal immigration law and ups the penalties for illegal re-entry.

Sanctuary Cities Releasing 1,000 Criminal Aliens Per Month

As Senate Republicans prepare to take on cities that do not comply with federal immigration authorities, the Center for Immigration Studies reveals that the approximately 340 so-called sanctuary cities in the U.S. have been releasing about 1,000 criminal aliens, combined, monthly.

Senate Republicans Move To Target Sanctuary Cities

The legislation, introduced by Sen. David Vitter (R-LA), would restrict federal funds and grants to jurisdictions that serve as sanctuary cities for illegal immigrants and refuse to cooperate with federal immigration authorities. The bill would also establish a mandatory sentence of five years for illegal immigrants convicted of re-entering the U.S. after being convicted of an aggravated felony or of illegally re-entering the U.S. twice.
