FL Education Commissioner Defends Ban on Discussing Gender Identity: ‘We’re Sticking to the Standards’

Florida Commissioner of Education Manny Díaz Jr. on Thursday defended the Florida Board of Education rule seeking to prohibit classroom discussions of sexual orientation and gender identity for children through grade 12, explaining that they are “sticking to the standards,” which “don’t incorporate gender ideology or any of these theories in math, social studies, reading or anything else.”

Disney Diversity and Inclusion Manager: We No longer Say ‘Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls’

In a leaked video from Disney’s “Reimagine Tomorrow” summit, Disney’s “diversity and inclusion” manager Vivian Ware can be seen in telling employees that the company no longer refers to patrons as “ladies and gentlemen, boys and girls” to assuage transgender guests. The City Journal’s Christopher Rufo first reported the story on Tuesday and posted a series of video clips of the summit to his Twitter account.

Supreme Court to Hear Cases on LGBT Issues in Workplaces

The Supreme Court announced on Monday that later this year the justices will hear arguments on whether federal law forbids discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation and gender identity, in the first major LGBT cases since Justice Anthony Kennedy’s retirement.

Second Circuit Appeals Court: Title VII Protects Gay People, May Go to Supreme Court

The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit ruled on Monday that it violates a federal sex-discrimination law if an employer discriminates against an employee based on sexual orientation, while dissenting judges in the case wrote that only Congress, not the courts, has the authority to change federal law. But the Justice Department disagrees, and this case could be the first to present this LGBT issue to the U.S. Supreme Court.
