Texas House Representative James White (R-Woodville) has filed H.B. 547 relating to the creation and dissolution of a covenant marriage. The law would allow couples to select to enter into an agreement for a covenant marriage. The law applies to populations between 54,000 and 56,000 in which more than 250 divorces are granted each year, or to counties where the commissioners court in the county have adopted an order authorizing persons to enter into covenant marriages. Bills providing for covenant marriages in Texas have not been successful in the past.
AUSTIN, Texas – Legislators from the Texas State House of Representatives, took to their chairs and were quiet on Monday, taking the time to remember Spencer Golvach. Golvach was randomly gunned down in late January by an illegal alien who had been deported numerous times. Representatives Debbie Riddle (R-Houston) and Patricia Harless (R-Houston) filed a House Resolution honoring the man’s life. The House members expressed their unanimous adoption of the memorial resolution by standing.
The “Coerced Abortion Prevention Act” filed by two Texas lawmakers would make it a crime for any person to coerce a pregnant woman to have an abortion. The bill would also mandate that a physician report to law enforcement — and, where applicable, Child Protective Services — anyone who coerces a woman or pregnant minor into an abortion. It would be considered child abuse if a parent, conservator, or guardian coerced a minor to have an abortion.
