Pray.com, the largest prayer app in the world, says that the popular Chinese-owned social network TikTok blacklisted it from running ads on the platform. The CEO of Pray.com says the company’s attitude “seemed malicious and unfair.”
Internal documents from popular social media platform TikTok appear to show the company instructing moderators to censor political content on the platform that could anger the Chinese government.
TikTok, a mobile app developed in China for sharing short videos, offers an avenue through which the Chinese Communist Party can push propaganda to audiences in America and the broader West. The app is suspected of censoring videos from the ongoing Hong Kong protests based on a complete lack of protests videos when compared to other social media platforms.
Popular entertainment app TikTok will pay $5.7 million to the FTC over a children’s privacy complaint, which alleged that the company’s Musical.ly app was collecting data from children under 13 without parental consent.
