Aaron Sorkin Attacks Huffington Post as 'Not very Nice'

Politico reports that during a recent Q&A with New Republic in Washington DC, the creative force behind The West Wing and HBO’s The Newsroom launched into a bizarre criticism of the media in which he specifically called out the Huffington Post as “not very nice” and addicted to “snark.” The bizarreness comes from the fact that Sorkin has himself practiced the art of “not very nice” and  “snark” on the front page of the Huffington Post.

[Sorkin] said outlets “aren’t very nice” anymore, specifically mentioning the homepage of The Huffington Post. Sorkin said he thinks the media is addicted to “snark” and in “a perpetual eye roll.”

“There’s too much money to be made and too much fun to be had laughing at somebody else fail. And that’s become okay,” he said. “There’s a need to put an exclamation point after everything.”

Fair enough. But I am pretty sure that the lofty Aaron Sorkin quoted above is the very same Aaron Sorkin who once used that very same front page of the Huffington Post to express his delight “every time one of you faux-macho shitheads accidentally shoots another one of you in the face,”

By “faux-macho shitheads” Sorkin was referring to Sarah Palin and hunters in general.

If Sorkin is going to blister the Huffington Post over “not very nice” and “snark,” I can think of no better example of both than his not-even-three-year-old HuffPo attack on a mother of five who dared shoot a moose.

“Unless you’ve never worn leather shoes, sat upon a leather chair or eaten meat, save your condemnation.”

You’re right, Sarah, we’ll all just go fuck ourselves now.

The snotty quote was posted by Sarah Palin on (like all the great frontier women who’ve come before her) her Facebook page to respond to the criticism she knew and hoped would be coming after she hunted, killed and carved up a Caribou during a segment of her truly awful reality show, Sarah Palin’s Alaska, broadcast on The-Now-Hilariously-Titled Learning Channel.

And then he wished upon her a face full of buckshot.

And then he called her “Cruella” and a “witless bully” and described her supporters as “Palin’s Army of Arrogant Assholes.”

In Sorkin’s defense, he might have a more nuanced and sophisticated definition of what “not very nice” and “snark” are, and what the Huffington Post is.

Sometimes elites speak in such lofty tones, only dogs and other elites can translate.
