In his first press conference of 2012, President Barack Obama appeared “oddly disconnected” from the financial strain his economic policies have placed on everyday Americans.
So says the Ranking Member of the Senate Budget Committee Jeff Sessions (R-AL):
“Stunningly, in his first press conference of the year, President Obama did not have a word to say about America’s extraordinary debt threat, which puts our economy, our security, and our nation at risk. Nor did he address the recent report from the nonpartisan Government Accountability Office, which identified $400 billion spent on 1,500 programs that are wasteful and duplicative. He talks about our economic health, but somehow ignores the fact that he submitted a budget plan only days ago that would grow the nation’s total debt another 75 percent, increase spending and taxes, and lead us to certain financial disaster.
According to Mr. Sessions, the press conference revealed a president uniquely out of touch with the economic struggles citizens continue to face under the president’s leadership.
President Obama waxed positive about the suffering economy–oddly disconnected from the painful truth that fewer Americans are working today than a decade ago, that wages are down, and that poverty has surged.
Mr. Sessions’s comments come as food and gas prices continue to surge, placing greater strain on the budgets of American families. Nationally, gas now costs $3.76 a gallon. The Oil Price Information Service predicts gas prices could peak at $4.25 per gallon in late April, which would top the previous record $4.11 per gallon in July 2008.
