Holder in Criminal Contempt of Congress; 17 Dems Support

The House of Representatives, in a historic move, has voted Attorney General Eric Holder in contempt of Congress for failure to produce subpoenaed documents in the investigation of Operation Fast and Furious.

The vote tallies were 255 yeas, 67 nays, and on present, and 110 Congressmen did not vote. The vote fell largely along party lines, with 17 Democrats voting yea and two Republicans--Scott Rigell (VA-2) and Steven C. LaTourette (OH-14)--voting nay. The Congressional Black Caucus, as promised, walked out of the vote.

White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer released a statement calling the contempt vote "political theater rather than legitimate Congressional oversight." Pfeiffer cited the use of gunwalking under George W. Bush's administration but did not make any reference to the family of slain border patrol agent Brian Terry or the hundreds of Mexican civilians killed by weapons sold to Mexican drug cartels through the Fast and Furious program.

All of these gains are nominal, you understand, but for terrified American policy makers and investors, nominal is just fine.
