Obama to Appear Before 'Mockingbird' Broadcast

Another day, another unofficial television appearance by the First Family.

Over the weekend, Michelle Obama got “slimed” as part of Nickelodeon’s “Kids Choice Awards.”

Now, President Barack Obama is slated to appear before the upcoming broadcast of the 1962 film classic “To Kill a Mockingbird.”  Saturday’s 8 p.m. EST broadcast on USA Network will feature limited commercial interruptions and a newly refurbished print of the Oscar-winning film.

“Mockingbird” tells a beautifully crafted tale of tolerance and justice, and Gregory Peck’s performance as Atticus Finch defined his image as one of Hollywood’s most upstanding actors.

It’s easy to say Obama should have more important matters on his plate than yet another TV appearance, and you’d be right. But the Obamas understand the importance of pop culture and the need to bypass media filters to speak directly to the masses without the chance of interrogation or vetting.
