'Crystal Fairy' Director: Kids Should Do Drugs Like Mescaline
Director Sebastian Silva's film, which currently holds an 80 percent "fresh" rating at RottenTomatoes.com, follows a scruffy American (Michael Cera) on a quest to find a special hallucinogen.
I highly recommend kids to take drugs," he said in a recent video interview with Uinterview, adding: " No, but I’m not talking about cocaine or crystal meth, you know what I’m talking about its like … yeah [laughs] that kind of stuff."
Silva was referring to mescaline, which Michael Cera and friends drink in the film.
Cera wasn't on the same page as his director.
The friends that I grew up with that have done drugs have been like really sad to watch. But [laughs] I’ve seen it get bad with people, so.
WebMD warns that mescaline, also known as peyote, is not to be taken lightly.
Peyote is UNSAFE for use. It can cause nausea and vomiting, anxiety, paranoia, fear, and emotional instability. It can also raise blood pressure, heart rate, and respiration rate. Changes in vision, drooling, headache, dizziness, and drowsiness may also occur. Although it is rarely fatal, peyote can cause homicidal, psychotic, or suicidal behavior related to the hallucinations.
