Source: Obama Tried to Undo Damage of Cairo Speech in Israel

A source who was present at a meeting on March 7 between President Barack Obama and more than two dozen American Jewish leaders says that some of his itinerary in Israel followed that group’s suggestions.

According to the source, Obama was advised to undo the damage of his 2009 Cairo speech to the Muslim and Arab worlds–in which he suggested that Israel resulted from the Holocaust–by stressing Jewish religious and Biblical ties to Israel.

Obama’s visit this week to the Dead Sea Scrolls at the Israel Museum, his wreath-laying at the grave of Zionist leader Theodor Herzl, and his speeches acknowledging Jewish heritage fit the theme.

The meeting with Jewish leaders was reported two weeks ago by Ron Kampeas of the Jewish Telegraphic Agency, but the substance of the discussion was not revealed at the time. Obama also met with Arab-American leaders before leaving for his trip, which includes stops in the West Bank and Jordan as well as Israel.

Both the American Jewish Committee and the American Israel Public Affairs Committee confirmed to Breitbart News that they were at the meeting, but declined comment as the meeting was off the record.
