700 Pot Plants Discovered Near Jerusalem

JERUSALEM — Israeli police discovered 700 marijuana plants growing in a field in the town of Bet Shemesh, west of Jerusalem, on Saturday morning.

The growers are alleged to have stolen water from a nearby irrigation system, using a pipe to fertilize the crops, according to the Israel Police website.

A special task force had been gathering information for some time and took covert action Saturday to move against the growers.

Two suspects have been arrested in connection with the operation. One of the suspects tried to flee and was arrested after a short chase.
