Kansas Makes Case for No. 1 Seed with Big 12 Title

The Kansas Jayhawks, ranked seventh in the country, beat rival and No. 11 Kansas State 70-54 on Saturday to win the school’s ninth Big 12 title and make a strong case for a No. 1 seed in next week’s NCAA tournament.

Kansas is an all-or-nothing team that can go all the way or go out the first weekend. Ben McLemore, Elijah Johnson, and Jeff Withey lead Kansas–and when the Jayhawks have been on this year, they have seem unbeatable. But they have struggled in spurts as well, and such a cold streak in the tournament could lead to another early exit for Kansas.

Withey had 17 points and Perry Ellis had 12 for Kanas, who had the game wrapped up to make a statement.

The Jayhawks (29-5) beat Kansas State (27-7) for the third time this year and, according to ESPN, have beaten them in their last 11 meetings in the conference tournaments.
