Luis Gutierrez: Amnesty Movement ‘Our Selma’

Ahead of the Martin Luther King holiday, Rep. Luis Gutierrez (D-IL) compared the fight for amnesty for illegal immigrants to the march for voting rights in Selma, Alabama during a New Jersey stop on his nationwide executive amnesty tour.

Gutierrez reportedly held a press conference in New Jersey with Sen. Bob Menendez (D-NJ) at the “Comunidad Cristiana Church in Elizabeth” in which claimed that today’s pro-amnesty movement is the “civil rights movement of our time.”

“This is our Selma and we will walk, we will march, we will be arrested, we will do anything and everything it takes to make sure families are protected in this nation,” Gutierrez said at the Friday evening gathering, according to audio obtained by the Latin Post.

Gutierrez, who has ferociously denounced anti-amnesty Republicans, started his nationwide executive amnesty tour last week in Rhode Island to educate illegal immigrants who may be eligible to receive Obama’s executive amnesty about the process.

As Breitbart News has emphasized, the civil rights movement of the 1960s was about ensuring that black Americans received all of the rights they were due as citizens of the United States while today’s pro-amnesty movement is about demanding full rights for non-citizens who entered the country illegally.
