A massive painting by Salvador Dali created in 1944 as a backdrop for a ballet production of New York’s Metropolitan Opera was recently found and shown Monday in Montreal.
The eight-by-15 meter work of art was offered to circus master Daniele Finzi Pasca, who will use it in his next production, La Verita, which opens on January 17 in the Canadian metropolis.
The artwork depicts the Spanish surrealist painter’s vision of the 12th century legend of adulterous love between the Cornish knight Tristan and the Irish princess Iseult.
After Montreal, both the canvass and the La Verita will tour South America and Europe, said troupe spokesman Jean-Sebastien Rousseau.
