Ghana teen midfielder Aminu Abdallah signed with Major League Soccer’s Vancouver Whitecaps on Thursday after spending the past five seasons with Ghana club International Allies.
The 19-year-old playmaker, a member of Ghana’s under-20 national side, was a teammate of Whitecaps midfielder Gershon Koffie for International Allies from 2008-2010.
“Aminu is a big, young, powerful player with huge potential,” said Whitecaps coach Martin Rennie. “He is a left-footed box-to-box player who can bring a lot to the team with his ability to win balls in the air and connect passes.”
Abdallah scored one goal in six training matches for Vancouver. He had previously trained with several top European sides including Juventus, CSKA Moscow and PSV Eindhoven.
“I am very excited to join Whitecaps,” Abdallah said. “I am going to work hard and try my best to make the club and fans proud.”
The Whitecaps are off to a 2-3-3 start in the North American league season, ranking seventh among nine teams in the Western Conference.
