NIH’s Fauci: 2018 Is the Earliest We’ll Have Zika Vaccine

National Institutes of Health Director Dr. Anthony Fauci announced Sunday on New York AM 970 radio show “The Cats Roundtable” that the earliest there will be a vaccine for Zika will be 2018.

“We’re working on a vaccine here at NIH and elsewhere,” he told host John Catsimatidis. “We started the first of a phase I trial literally just two days ago. And right now we’re gonna take about three or four months to get that done and then we’ll do a big trial in areas where there are active transmissions. We’re working our way to a vaccine, but as you probably know, vaccines don’t get done in a few months. The earliest we’ll have a vaccine, at best if everything works, will be sometime in 2018.”
