Heilemann: ‘Warranted’ to Ask If Devin Nunes Is Compromised by the Russians

On Tuesday’s broadcast of MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” MSNBC and NBC National Affairs Analyst and Co-Host and Executive Producer of “The Circus” John Heilemann asked whether House Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes (R-CA) is a Russian agent.

Heilemann asked Senator Chris Murphy (D-CT), “Senator, it’s John Heilemann here, I want to ask you a question that under almost any other circumstances would be ridiculous and absurd, but under these circumstances I think is actually warranted. Is it possible that the Republican chairman of the House Intel Committee has been compromised by the Russians? Is it possible that they actually have a Russian agent running the House Intel Committee on the Republican side?”

Heilemann added that he wasn’t the first person to raise this concern.

Later in the show, Heilemann asked Representative Eric Swalwell (D-CA), “Congressman Nunes, your chairman, it is suggested by — not by me, but by people who follow these matters closely, is this — could possibly be someone who’s been compromised by the Russians. Is that something that you consider a possibility?”

Murphy answered Heilemann’s question by stating he has no evidence to suggest Nunes is a Russian agent. Swalwell said he wouldn’t speculate on Nunes’ motives.
