On May 8 Japanese Firearm and Sword Control officers arrested Yoshitomo Imura “for possession of five 3D firearms” at his home in Kawasaki, Kanagawa, Japan.
According to 3DPrint.com, “Two of these firearms had the ability to be loaded with live metal ammunition, and fired, thus making them lethal.” Police also found a 3D printer in Imura’s home.
Police discovered Imura via videos he posted online that showed him shooting the guns. Imura admitted making the guns, but claimed “he didn’t know it was illegal to create [them] on a 3D printer.”
On the website where he posted the videos Imura declared: “The right person should survive even if weak. A gun makes power equal.”
This marks the first arrest Japanese Firearm and Sword Control officers have made related to 3D-printed guns.
