Susan Sarandon Rips Elizabeth Warren For Endorsing Hillary: ‘Represents Everything’ You ‘Fought Against’

Actress and avid Bernie Sanders supporter Susan Sarandon blasted Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-MA) on Twitter Friday for her recent endorsement of Hillary Clinton in the presidential election.

Sarandon’s barbs came after Sen. Warren posted a tweet condemning the corrupt relationship between D.C. politicians and powerful, well-connected special interest groups.

“Government should be accountable to the people, not Wall Street lobbyists, deep-pocketed donors, and secretive Super PACs,” Warren tweeted.

The Thelma and Louise star responded to Warren’s tweet, calling it “ironic” given that the Massachusetts senator has endorsed presumptive Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton.

“Is this meant to be ironic after you just endorsed Clinton???” Sarandon tweeted.

Sarandon later took another shot at Warren.

The progressive actress accused Warren of supporting a “candidate who represents everything [she] has fought against.”

Warren declared her support for Clinton Thursday on MSNBC’s The Rachel Maddow Show. 

“Yes, I’m ready,” Warren said. “I am ready to get in this fight and work my heart out for Hillary Clinton to become the next president of the United States and to make sure that Donald Trump never gets any place close to the White House.”

Sarandon has been one of Bernie Sanders’s most vocal celebrity backers. In April, during an interview on Stephen Colbert’s The Late Show, Sarandon said she’s “more afraid” of Clinton than she is of presumptive GOP nominee Donald Trump’s proposed border wall, and expressed doubts about Clinton’s “moral judgment.”

Clinton became the Democratic party’s presumptive nominee after Tuesday’s California primary. She has been criticized for her close relationships with Wall Street power-brokers and high-dollar donors — including by left-wing filmmaker Michael Moore, who recently called Clinton “Wall Street’s paid candidate.”

Clinton was booed during a primary debate in April over her refusal to release transcripts of speeches she gave to major Wall Street firms, including Goldman Sachs.

In March, Sarandon told MSNBC’s Chris Hayes that she just can’t see herself voting for Hillary Clinton.

“I think Bernie would probably encourage people to [support Hillary if he loses] because he doesn’t have any ego in this thing,” she said. “But I think a lot of people are, ‘Sorry, I just can’t bring myself to [vote for Hillary].'”
