LAREDO, Texas — A U.S. Border Patrol agent is accused of child pornography in connection with a federal investigation. He was also charged with trying to set up a meeting with an 8-year-old girl. The agent was arrested during a federal sting operation.

On Friday, agents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection Office of Inspector General along with agents with Homeland Security Investigations arrested 50-year-old Salvador Contreras, information provided to Breitbart Texas by the U.S. Attorney’s Office revealed.

Contreras, a senior agent with U.S. Border Patrol from Del Rio, is expected to appear before a U.S. Magistrate Judge in Laredo on Monday.

According to the information provided by prosecutors, Contreras sent numerous images depicting child pornography to an agent passing themselves off as the mother of an 8-year-old. During the conversations with the child’s mother, Contreras allegedly expressed his interest in having sexual relations with the girl. As part of the sting operation, officials stated the two made an arrangement to meet up in Cotulla so the agent could have sexual relations with the girl.

When Contreras arrived in Cotulla, federal authorities arrested him.
