SALTILLO, Coahuila — The mayor of a rural municipality in this border state is silent after federal police found a shipment of marijuana in a truck that allegedly belongs to his transportation company.

The seizure occurred last week when agents with Mexico’s Federal Police were patrolling the highway that connects Saltillo with Torreón and stopped a white truck hauling trailer, Mexico’s Attorney General’s Office (PGR) revealed. The seizure took place near the kilometer 200 marker when officers found a large load of drugs hidden in the trailer and arrested the driver, only identified as “Manuel N.”

According to information leaked by sources within the PGR, the tractor-trailer belongs to Transportes Evaristo Madero, a company owned by the current mayor of Parras de La Fuente, Evaristo Madero. Authorities confirmed that within the seized cargo, they found 101 bundles of marijuana weighing more than one ton.

Days after the seizure of the truck, the Ecological Green Party of Mexico (PVEM) issued a statement denying any link between Madero and the drug trade, El Siglo de Torreón reported. According to the party, the information is a political attack and will confront those responsible.

Editor’s Note: Breitbart Texas traveled to the Mexican States of Tamaulipas, Coahuila, and Nuevo León to recruit citizen journalists willing to risk their lives and expose the cartels silencing their communities.  The writers would face certain death at the hands of the various cartels that operate in those areas including the Gulf Cartel and Los Zetas if a pseudonym were not used. Breitbart Texas’ Cartel Chronicles are published in both English and in their original Spanish. This article was written by “J.M. Martinez” from Coahuila.
