Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain (R-AZ) shot back “get out of here you low-life scum” at a group of Code Pink protesters who crashed a hearing of the committee on Thursday.
The protesters showed up shortly after former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger showed up to testify before the committee and chanted “arrest Henry Kissinger for war crimes.” A few other individuals in attendance at the hearing said “shut your trap” and “we don’t want to hear from you anymore” at the protesters while McCain tried to locate Capitol Police.
After the police got control of the situation, McCain stated “I’ve been a member of this committee for many years, and I have never anything as disgraceful, and outrageous, and despicable as the last demonstration that just took place,” after one of the protesters still in the hearing started yelling at McCain he responded “you’re going to have to shut up, or I’m going to have you arrested.” As one of the hecklers was escorted from the room by the police, McCain declared “get out of here, you low-life scum,” a line that drew applause from some of those in attendance.
