Dem Rep Schiff: ‘Mixed Bag’ Deal Will Give Iran ‘Greater Resources’ For ‘Nefarious Work’

Representative Adam Schiff (D-CA) said the “mixed bag” deal with Iran will push Iran “considerably” further away from a nuclear weapon but also will give Iran “greater resources…to do its nefarious work throughout the region” on Tuesday’s “Andrea Mitchell Reports” on MSNBC.

Schiff said, “Well, it certainly will leave Iran with a nuclear infrastructure. And as much as I would like to see that rolled back completely, that’s the nature of a negotiation with an adversary, you don’t get everything you want. So, they will have an infrastructure, but they’ll be considerably farther from a bomb than they are today. So, that’s the mixed bag. Iran will have greater resources if this deal goes through to do its nefarious work throughout the region, to try to increase its hegemony in the region, and we’ll have to adopt a stronger containment strategy along with our Gulf allies to meet that challenge. But, if there is a deal, it will roll back elements of the nuclear program, and that’s the only reason we’re in this negotiation.”
