Strange: Opposing Me to Oppose McConnell ‘Classic Example’ of Cutting Off Your Nose to Spite Your Face

Saturday on Fox News Channel’s “Fox & Friends Weekend,” Sen. Luther Strange (R-AL) argued that conservatives lining up against him to support former Alabama Supreme Court Justice Roy Moore in Tuesday’s U.S. Senate special election GOP primary runoff was not about opposing him.

He said instead it was about opposing Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY.)

Strange argued acting on that impulse and voting for Moore would be akin to cutting off your nose to spite your face and that he was the best suited to advance President Donald Trump’s agenda.

“I think it’s all about Mitch McConnell and the national agenda – power between competing groups,” Strange said. “I actually had a conservative leader say, ‘Luther, this has nothing to do with you. This is all about Mitch McConnell,’ which is what my grandmother used to say was a classic example of cutting off your nose to spite your face. I’ve got the most conservative record of accomplishment as the president repeated time and again last night. That’s what so ironic about this. My opponent would be an obstructionist and not advance the president’s agenda.”
