Thursday on CNN’s “New Day,” 2020 presidential candidate Sen. Cory Booker (D-NJ) commented on how he handles disagreements with his fellow Democrats on the debate stage.
Booker said he knows he has disagreements with former Vice President Joe Biden, but he does not plan on “sucker punching him” in debates because he plans to support whoever the nominee is, describing the debates more like “family discussion.”
“I definitely have disagreements with Vice President Joe Biden, but I’m not sucker punching him,” Booker told hosts John Berman and Alisyn Camerota. “I’m very straightforward with my disagreements, but at the ends of the day, I respect him. He is a statesman, he has been at this for decades. I’m not actually trying to tear him down. I’m trying to prepare our party to deal with the issues that I think voters care about.”
Booker added that whoever the nominee ends up being needs to be “tough and read” to go toe-to-toe with President Donald Trump.
