The anti-bully crowd is nothing more than a bunch of bullies. Every bit as bad as the pro same sex-marriage bullies. Oppressive tolerance. Using force to force tolerance without a sense of irony.

Because it’s sexier to talk about music and video, something we sometimes forget is what the Internet is also doing to the publishing world. Amazon has already put all-kinds of booksellers out of business, especially those chains that chased the smaller sellers away, but what will the e-book do to the physical book?
As is the case with video and audio, I prefer owning a physical copy, but space and convenience is an issue. Having all my music preserved forever and available at the push of a button, is a wonderful thing. Books are great to have and to hold, but the space they take up matters and being able to purchase them at a cheaper price does as well.
WE NEED TO STOP COMPARING FILM AND TV?
Film School Rejects does an awful job defending movies:
How many films have approached the moral complexity and sociological density of The Sopranos or The Wire? Really? How about Hotel Rwanda or Whale Rider or The Departed or Donnie Darko or A History of Violence or There Will Be Blood or Take Shelter?
The verve and insight of Mad Men? How about Thank You For Smoking or In The Loop or Almost Famous?
With the new Golden Era of television in full bloom and the quality of films in deep, deep decline — this kind of rationalizing is not the answer.
Dramatic television has become a medium for mature writers and films have become a medium for geeks and shallow, politically correct leftists. I get that taste is a subjective thing, but how many of those films will be forgotten in 20 years? How many are already forgotten?
Of course there are exceptions, but movies suck today — most especially adult dramas and most especially those adult dramas attempting “moral complexity and sociological density” — and denial isn’t going to make them better.
I do think, however, that it’s become a cultural and political divide. Just as abstract art (what isn’t art) is appreciated by those who confuse nihilism and narcissism with substance, we are seeing the same with the adult drama, and it’s reflected at the box office. Meaningful films with classical themes like “The Help” and “The Blind Side” satisfy the yearning people have to be uplifted and asked to aspire, whereas preachy, heavy-handed, self-absorbed, self-involved pedantic, meaningless tripe is largely ignored and pretty much forgotten.

My advice to Ross is that he grab the paycheck AND use this once-in-a-lifetime leverage to get a dream project financed that no one will touch.
SCORSESE IN TALKS TO DEVELOP SINATRA BIOPIC
I honestly hate the idea of Scorsese touching this. As we saw with “The Aviator,” Scorsese is all about focusing on his subjects’ foibles, flaws, and their falls, as opposed to their greatness and what made them great. That’s what I want to remember after a Howard Hughes biopic, not Little Leo over-acting with long, dirty fingernails.
The article states that Scorsese is having a hard time finding a focused script. He might try the arc of Sinatra’s life where as an old man he finally matured into a decent man, one who made amends to his first wife and with his kids and who probably did more benefit concerts (without calling attention to himself) than any other performer.
The good news is that Scorsese is opposed to having anyone sing Sinatra other than Sinatra. You cannot reproduce that voice — which is the finest musical instrument I’ve ever heard.
‘MIRROR MIRROR’ DWARF GENERALLY ANGRY ABOUT THINGS

[Dwarfs cast in non-dwarfy parts] are not going to happen, I’m afraid. It would often be a distraction from the story. The viewers would lose the plot. Maybe they’d giggle. If I were a dwarf actor, I’d be happy to get work biting ankles or being bowled with. Most actors are unemployed most of the time. You have to work with what you’ve got. If you look like Kathy Bates, you’re not going to be cast as the willowy young princess.
I don’t know about that. In “Game of Thrones” I forget about Peter Dinklage’s height and have as well in a number of roles he’s played. Obviously, his height has always been commented on, but he has portrayed some very real and human people where his being a little person in no way defined who his character was.

Finally, TDKR scored its rating for “intense sequences of violence and action, some sensuality and language.” The 2008 movie was considered envelope-pushing for its intensity — some parents were left wondering why the Batman movie hadn’t been rated R — and the rating leaves no question that audiences can expect the same with the new movie. But by singling out “sensuality” in the label, the ratings board might be indicating that this movie has something new to show about the caped crusader. It might also preview a more emotional side of Nolan, whose films have been described more cerebral than emotion-filled.
