Helicopters and fire crews on the ground combined to beat a brush fire overnight and into early Sunday morning in the wealthy coastal community of Pacific Palisades.

According to NBC Los Angeles, the fire started at about 3 a.m.

The blaze burned until almost 8 a.m.

Two Breitbart News staffers who were in the area saw the fire, separately, as smoke blew west over the Pacific.

Conditions are ripe for wildfires in California. Extreme drought, combined with seasonal Santa Ana winds, amplify the risk.

Rains anticipated from a strong El Niño have not yet arrived in sufficient strength to dampen the risk.

As hillsides burn, the risk of landslides from winter rains increases.

Local governments along the coast have already begun preparations for storm tides and wet weather.
