“Roseanne’s Joint” — that’s the name of a new Santa Ana, California marijuana dispensary owned by ‘90s-era television star and comedian Roseanne Barr, set to open this spring.

Barr’s pot shop will not only carry unique strains of marijuana, but her own farm-grown line of pot-laced, chocolate-covered macadamia nuts, according to Fox 11 News in Los Angeles. Barr herself is expected to make appearances at the shop now and again.

Younger millennials who don’t recall Barr’s long running television sitcom Roseanne may need to be reminded that the show was must-see TV leading into the 1990s.

Meanwhile, two Democratic state legislators are pushing marijuana tax bills, one of which would hit retail medical marijuana sellers with a 15 per cent tax on sales.

Sen. Mike McGuire (D-Healdsburg) introduced the Marijuana Value Tax Act on Wednesday, saying a large portion of revenue from the bill would fund state and local enforcement agencies, according to the Times-Standard.

Another bill by State Assemblyman Jim Wood (D-Healdsburg) will focus on taxing marijuana cultivators on the basis of ounces produced, according to the Times-Standard. It has yet to be introduced, but is being planned as a complement to McGuire’s bill.

Wood has also introduced AB 1575 to create a banking system for marijuana businesses. It is aimed at banks hesitant to set up bank accounts for retailers in light of federal laws against the drug.

McGuire was quoted as saying California communities are “desperate for funding.” An estimate from the State Board of Equalization puts first-year revenue from the bill at $100 million.

Barr commented that she hopes the retail shop to be a responsible and contributing member of the community, according to the Orange County Register. The Register also notes several other celebrities getting into the retail pot game including, rapper B-Real from Cypress Hill, actor Woody Harrelson, Snoop Dogg, and Bob Marley’s family.

Barr also ran for President of the United States under the Green Party and Freedom Party banners in past elections.
