Dec. 26 (UPI) — A man injured in the crash of a UPS plane in Louisville, Ky, has died Friday, Mayor Craig Greenberg announced.
“It is with great sadness that I just learned Alain Rodriguez Colina has passed,” Greenberg said in a post on X. “Alain is the 15th victim of the UPS Flight 2976 accident. He suffered severe injuries at the time of the crash and passed earlier this Christmas Day. May Alain’s memory be a blessing.”
Kentucky Gov. Andy Beshear also shared the news on X: “I’m sad to share some tough news. Today, we lost Alain Rodriguez Colina due to his injuries from the UPS plane crash, bringing our total loss to 15,” he said. “Let’s pray for these families today and in the days, months and years to come so they know they are not alone and they are loved.”
A UPS MD-11 cargo plane crashed soon after takeoff on Nov. 4 killing all three pilots on board and 12 people on the ground, including a small child. The National Transportation Safety Board said fatigued and overly stressed connecting hardware likely caused the left engine to detach from the plane, causing the fiery crash. UPS and FedEx have grounded all MD-11s since the crash.
There are several lawsuits against UPS, General Electric and Boeing, cleanup continues and many businesses are still closed.
Of those killed, 11 were employees and customers of Grade A Auto Parts, which is near the runway.
Besides Colina, the victims were: Capt. Dana Diamond, 62; Capt. Richard Wartenberg, 57; First Officer Lee Truitt, 45; Angela Anderson, 45; Carlos Fernandez, 52; Louisnes Fedon, 47; Kimberly Asa, 3 (Fedon’s granddaughter); Trinadette “Trina” Chavez, 37; Tony Crain, 65; John Loucks, 52; John Spray Jr., 45; Matthew Sweets, 37; Ella Petty Whorton, 31; and Megan Washburn, 35
