Jan. 6 (UPI) — The Israeli military on Tuesday said its war planes had struck Hezbollah and Hamas in throughout Lebanon.
In a social media post, the Israel Defense Forces said it struck alleged weapon storage facilities and military buildings used by Hamas and Hezbollah, two of Iran’s main proxy militias in the region, a day prior.
The IDF said several weapon storage facilities and military buildings struck were above and below ground and were used by Hezbollah “to advance terror plots against IDF forces and the State of Israel and to rehabilitate the organization.”
Sites for weapon production for Hamas in southern Lebanon were also hit, it said.
“The sites that were struck are located in civilian areas,” the IDF said. “This is another example of the cynical use by the terrorist organizations of Lebanese civilians as human shields for terror activities.”

The IDF said it took steps to prevent harm to the public, including warning those in the area in advance of the strike.
“The activities of the terrorist organizations at these sites constitute a violation of the understandings between Israel and Lebanon and a threat to the State of Israel,” it said.
Prior to the Monday attacks, the IDF”s Arabic-language spokesperson, Avichay Adraee, posted warnings to X, urging residents in specific areas of Kfar Hatta and Ain Al-Tinah to evacuate. Both areas are located in southern Lebanon.
“You are located near buildings used by Hezbollah and for your safety you are required to evacuate them immediately and stay away from them by a distance of at least 300 meters,” he said.
“Remaining in the area of the marked buildings puts you in danger.”
The war between Israel and Hamas began Oct. 7, 2023. A day later, Hezbollah entered the conflict.
The Hezbollah-Israel conflict saw a pause to major fighting in November 2024 under a cease-fire brokered by then-U.S. President Joe Biden.
Fighting in Gaza also came to a halt with a fragile U.S.-brokered cease-fire in January.
Despite the cease-fires, Israel has continued to attack alleged Hamas and Hezbollah targets in both Lebanon and Gaza.
