Orioles agree to $155 million deal with ex-Mets star Pete Alonso

Dec. 10 (UPI) — The Baltimore Orioles agreed to a five-year, $155 million contract with free agent first baseman Pete Alonso.

Sources told MLB.com, The Athletic and ESPN about the agreement, which is pending a physical, on Wednesday. Alonso hit a career-high .272 with 38 home runs, a National League high 41 doubles and 126 RBIs over 162 appearances last season for the New York Mets.

The five-time All-Star hit .240 with 34 home runs, 31 doubles and 88 RBIs over 162 appearances in 2024. Alonso clubbed a career-high 53 home runs in 2019 en route to Rookie of the Year honors.

He recorded 40 and 46 long balls, respectively, in 2022 and 2023.

Alonso joined the Mets as a second-round pick in the 2016 MLB Draft. He appeared in 1,008 games for the Mets over his first seven seasons. He went 15 for 54 (.278) at the plate through his first 16 postseason appearances.

He will join an Orioles lineup that includes Jackson Holliday, Taylor Ward, Gunnar Henderson and Adley Rutschman.
