Six people killed in fiery crash on Florida’s Turnpike

Oct. 24 (UPI) — Six people were killed on Florida’s Turnpike Friday when an SUV speeding with its headlights off rammed into a truck providing roadside assistance.

A Chevy Traverse was traveling northbound in Orange County about 9:30 p.m. when it collided with a state Road Ranger truck that was assisting another crash, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Witnesses said the vehicle was speeding and had no headlights on.

It struck the right rear of the Road Ranger truck, and both vehicles became engulfed in flames.

The six people in the SUV were trapped inside the vehicle and died at the scene. They have not been publicly identified.

The driver of the Road Ranger, a 28-year-old man, suffered minor injuries and did not require medical assistance.
