Mountain lion spotted by Brentwood residents

BRENTWOOD, Calif., Oct. 1 (UPI) —

Brentwood residents are on the lookout for a loose mountain lion after a local woman spotted a cougar roaming around near Copperfield Court.

Brigette Vinding told ABC7’s KGO she was enjoying breakfast in her backyard at 9 a.m. when she noticed the mountain lion’s long tail.

Vinding quickly took out her camera and began taking pictures of the feline from about 300 yards away. The woman said the mountain lion roamed around for about 20 minutes.

"He was looking for food," she recounted. He came down and went back over and up the hill.”

Resident Donna Crupi later found the cat wandering right by her house.

"I usually walk my dogs around that time, but its fall break so we didn’t do that this morning… and it’s a good thing," she said.

Because the California Department of Fish and Game only responds to animal sightings when another animal or human is threatened, residents will have to be on the lookout for the big cat for the time being.
