Jan. 22 (UPI) — Lindsey Vonn, Mikaela Shiffrin and Chloe Kim were among 97 American skiers and snowboarders selected for the 2026 Winter Olympics, officials announced Thursday.
Snowboarder Jamie Anderson, a two-time Olympic gold medalist, was among the notable omissions from the team. The full roster of athletes can be found here.
The athletes will compete for Team USA at the Winter Olympics from Feb. 4 to 22 in Milan, Cortina d’Ampezzo, Valtellina, Val di Fiemme, Bormio and Livigno. The schedule features 116 medal events.
“The athletes we are sending to the Games represent a large portion of Team USA and I am confident about the impact they will make in Italy,” U.S. Ski and Snowboard president and CEO Sophie Goldschmidt said in a news release.
“More than the results, our athletes are also bringing some of the most captivating story lines to Milano Cortina, and we are so excited to see the impact they will have while representing their country in February.”
Alpine skier Ryan Cochran-Siegle, an Olympic silver medalist and cross-country skier Jessie Diggins, a three-time medalist, are among other notable stars on Team USA.
Skiers Jaelin Kauf, Chris Lillis, Alex Hall, Alex Ferreira, Nick Goepper and snowboarders Red Gerard and Nick Baumgartner will join Vonn, Shiffrin, Kim, Diggins and Cochran-Siegle as Team USA athletes with Olympic medals on their resumes.
“We are excited to announce the 97 athletes that will represent Team USA at the Olympic Winter Games in just two weeks,” U.S. Ski and Snowboard chief of sport Anouk Patty said.
“Throughout this season, we’ve seen quite remarkable results from our athletes across all 10 of our sports and I know this is one of the strongest teams we have sent to the Games. “I am excited to cheer for them on the biggest stage in sports,” she said.
