Pelosi: Civil Contempt Lawsuit Against Holder About Vote Suppression

Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is at it again. She released a statement about the Oversight Committee’s lawsuit against Attorney General Eric Holder. The Oversight Committee is suing Holder in civil court to force Eric Holder to account for Fast and Furious documents he has refused to turn over.

“This partisan lawsuit wastes taxpayer dollars and resources, and is a distraction from the urgent business before Congress: acting to create jobs and grow our economy,” said Mrs. Pelosi. “It is also designed to distract the Justice Department from its critical job of challenging state laws designed to restrict the rights of Americans to vote.”

Fast & Furious was a gun walking scheme set in place by the government. It caused numerous guns to walk into the hands of Mexican drug cartels, resulting in the deaths of Border Patrol Agent Brian Terry and 300+ Mexicans. There are still 1,000+ guns missing. They’re also linked to numerous other crimes in Mexico. It has nothing to do with anyone’s right to vote.

Here are a few facts. This is not a partisan lawsuit. Twenty-one Democrats voted to hold Mr. Holder in civil contempt.

Second, the American people do care about this. On July 9 CNN/ORC International released a poll that showed the 53% of Americans agree with the contempt vote and 69% want President Obama to drop the executive privilege and release documents. Representative Joe Walsh told Breitbart News his constituents in Illinois’s 14th district ask about it.

“Illinois knows about this,” he said. “It comes up at every townhall and the message is getting out.”

Third, usually Democrats want to avoid the economy until Fast & Furious comes up. It’s not a topic they want to talk about because it has the potential of bringing down the entire administration. A few people in Congress aren’t shocked about the topic switch.

“It’s not defensible!” Representative Sandy Adams told Breitbart News. “There’s no angle to go on. You don’t give a gun to a bad guy and let it walk.”

When Breitbart News asked Representative Ben Quayle he laughed.

“They have no leg to stand on and it’s more of a political ploy,” he said.

This lawsuit is designed to hold people accountable for their actions, give the Terry family answers, and give Agent Terry the justice he deserves. After18 months of investigations and hearing,  no one knows who’s came up with the Fast & Furious plan, who approved it, and how far up it went on the chain of command. No one has been held accountable. Those involved have either been allowed to resign quietly or reassigned to different positions.

Representative Elijah Cummings, the top Democrat on the committee, echoed Mrs. Pelosi’s thoughts.

“It seems clear that House Republican leaders do not want to resolve the contempt issue and prefer to generate unnecessary conflict with the Administration as the election nears,” said Mr. Cummings. “Unfortunately, the American public suffers as House Republicans disregard the real work that needs to be done.”

If the Department of Justice gave Congress all of the information they requested in January 2011 this would be over with. The stonewalling of the DOJ forced it into an election year. They have no one to blame but themselves.
