Kansas to Allow Guns in Statehouse Beginning in July

Starting in July visitors will be able to carry guns inside the Kansas statehouse.

On June 19 legislators “refused… to use authority granted to them by Kansas law to block holders of concealed permits from entering the buildings with their weapons.”

According to the Associated Press, “The Republican-dominated Legislature enacted a law last year aimed at allowing concealed carry weapons inside more public buildings.” This legislation allowed “local governments and state agencies [to] continue to ban the weapons through 2017” if they were to “declare publicly that the buildings have adequate security plans.”

This legislation also “authorized concealed weapons at the Statehouse, absent legislative leaders’ intervention.”

Law already allowed legislators to carry concealed weapons.
