Nine Shootings in Baltimore Thursday; Two Dead

Baltimore had another rough day on Thursday, as nine shootings were reported across the city, with two of the shootings proving fatal.

The Guardian, in a failed attempt to make the violent protests after the funeral of Freddie Gray seem tame by comparison with Thursday’s violence, reported, “The city has seen roughly three to four shootings a day over the past 10 days. In contrast, throughout the protests in West Baltimore following the police shooting death of 25-year-old Freddie Gray and the riots on 27 April, there were no casualties.”

The Guardian’s report ignores the fact that from April 19, when Gray died, through April 27, there were six homicides committed in Baltimore. They were unrelated to the protests, but so were the shootings and homicides on Thursday.

Through May 7, Baltimore has suffered 82 homicides in 2015, an average of more than four per week.

On Thursday, a 34-year-old woman died after she was shot multiple times at Patapsco Avenue and Potee Street. Another fatality occurred when a man was shot multiple times in the 800 block of W. Lexington St.

Other shootings included a man with a gunshot wound to the leg in the 100 block of N. Fremont Ave., a man shot in the foot in the 1200 block of E. North Ave., a man shot in the shoulder in the 2800 block of Elgin Ave. in West Baltimore, a man shot in the leg in the 4400 block of Marble Hall Road, a man shot in the arm in the 5100 block of Park Heights Ave, and a man and woman shot in the 500 block of N. East Ave.
