Planned Parenthood Running Scared as States Limit Abortions

Taxpayer-funded abortion giant Planned Parenthood sent out a panicky tweet Sunday trying to galvanize its core supporters, telling them that laws restricting abortions had “skyrocketed” in the last decade, something it finds “mind-boggling.”

In an accompanying article, Planned Parenthood bemoans women’s “shrinking options” as more and more grassroots associations push through abortion-limiting legislation.

“States across the country have enacted 51 new abortion restrictions in the first six months of 2015,” the article laments, “despite the fact that Americans overwhelmingly support a woman’s right to access safe, legal abortion without government interference.”

The last part of this statement is—unsurprisingly—a lie. The latest Gallup Poll on the subject of abortion, carried out in May of this year, found that 55% of American adults think abortion should be “legal in only a few circumstances” or “illegal in all circumstances.” That is a far cry from the claim that Americans “overwhelmingly” support abortion without government interference. The reality is that the majority of Americans believe that abortion should be illegal in most circumstances.

In its article, Planned Parenthood goes on to decry the “avalanche of abortion bans and restrictions across the last five years” with states enacting “282 restrictions on abortion since 2010.”

Despite these successful efforts to limit abortions, Planned Parenthood still receives approximately $500 million a year in taxpayer funds, a fact that many citizens and politicians find appalling.

In March, Republican Diane Black commented on a report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) that documented taxpayer dollars going to fund the largest abortion provider in the United States:

This report confirms what we suspected all along: hard-earned taxpayer dollars continue to be used to promote abortions. The GAO study found that Planned Parenthood Federation of America alone – the nation’s largest abortion provider – spent about $1.5 billion in combined federal and state funding during this reporting period. This is shameful and we have a responsibility to stop it.

“As a nurse for more than 40 years, I know that abortion is not health care,” she added.

Despite the defeatist tone of the article, Planned Parenthood ends by rallying the troops and vowing to fight back.

The article declares that the “latest avalanche of restrictions has given rise to millions more women, men, and young people stepping up to fight back. Thanks to an outpouring of support, Planned Parenthood has been able to open new health centers across the country.”

“Lawmakers be warned: There’s a new generation of women leading this fight,” Planned Parenthood said. “They’re storming state capitols and protesting outside of Governor’s mansions. And they’re making sure their voices won’t be ignored.”

This show of bravado seems nothing more than a thin veneer over the fear of an organization that knows its days are numbered and is already running scared.

The more Americans become aware of the shady and deceitful operations of Planned Parenthood, the more they wisely back away.
