Newt Gingrich: Potential ‘Civil War’ Coming at GOP Convention

On the Sunday edition of “The Cats Roundtable” on AM 970 in New York, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich told host John Catsimatidis that things could get interesting at the GOP convention this summer in Cleveland, OH.

According to Gingrich, a “civil war” could ensue if a contested convention keeps GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump from securing the nomination.

“If [Donald] Trump comes in [to the convention] with 45 percent or more of the delegates, he’s gonna be the nominee. You would have a civil war if people stepped in, if the old guard stepped in, and tried to steal the nomination,” he explained.

Gingrich did say that if Trump were to stumble in Florida and Ohio then his opponents could have a better case.

“Now if Trump somehow stumbles in Florida, stumbles in Ohio, you’ve got a little bit of a different story – now there’s a real brawl. Frankly, if he wins both Ohio and Florida it’s over,” he added.
