Rudy Giuliani: Trump Will Save 2nd Amendment, Clinton Will ‘Take It Away From You’

Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump holds a campaign rally the Reno-Sparks Conven

During a November 5 speech in Reno, Nevada, former NYC Mayor Rudy Giuliani said Donald Trump will save the Second Amendment but Hillary Clinton will “take it away from you.”

The crowd roared as Giuliani emphasized Trump’s defense of the right to keep and and bear arms.

Giuliani said:

If you elect Donald Trump you will preserve your Second Amendment right to bear arms. If you elect Hillary Clinton, she will appoint one judge and then two, and they will take it away from you, and a lot of your other rights.

Trump has been sounding the same warning about Clinton and, during the last presidential debate, actually said he wants to appoint justices to the Supreme Court who will save the Second Amendment from people “like Hillary Clinton.”

Trump said:

I am looking to appoint judges very much in the mold of Justice Scalia. …People that will respect the constitution of the United States. And I think that this is so important–also, the Second Amendment which is totally under siege by people like Hillary Clinton.

Clinton’s intention to use Supreme Court justice choices as a way to reverse or at least tweak the District of Columbia v Heller (2008) decision is no secret. On May 5, 2016, her spokesman Josh Schwerin told Huffington Post Clinton “believes Heller was wrongly decided in that cities and states should have the power to craft common sense laws to keep their residents safe.”

Neither Schwerin or Clinton point out that the law Heller struck down was a ban that the prevented law-abiding Washington, D.C. residents from owning handguns. And far from keeping residents safe, that law simply empowered criminals who continued to possess handguns.

Writing in Real Clear Politics, author William Bennett warned that the Second Amendment would be a “primary target” for a Clinton-stacked SCOTUS and that her activism would not be directed toward Heller alone. He pointed out that McDonald v Chicago (2010) would also be in Clinton’s cross hairs, should she be elected.

McDonald struck down Chicago’s handgun ban with a ruling which explained that Second Amendment protections are incorporated by the Fourteenth Amendment.

Trump is trying to save the Second Amendment from “people like Hillary Clinton.”
