A judge sentenced a Maine woman to 150 days in prison on Tuesday for cracking her father’s skull using a fire poker while drunk.

Briana L. Rideout, 21, received her prison sentence after pleading guilty to carrying out the drunken attack on her father in March 2017 at the family’s Randolph, Maine, home, the Kennebec Journal reported.

Rideout had already been drunk when she, along with her father, decided to drink some more in the basement.

Police say the confrontation began when Rideout and her father had an argument over money. An arrest report stated that Rideout screamed at her father, prompting her father to push her out of the way.

When Rideout fell over from the force of the push, she used a piece firewood to smack her father over the head. She then proceeded to strike her father on the head multiple times with the piece of firewood and a fire poker.

A relative eventually intervened to stop the fight, allowing the father to escape through a basement window.

The father suffered a fractured skull, a cut across his eye, and bruises to his arms, shoulder, and chest. Authorities initially charged Rideout with aggravated assault, but she pleaded guilty to the lesser charge of misdemeanor assault.

At the Tuesday sentencing, the judge praised Rideout for trying to better herself by undergoing counseling and keeping a job for six months.
