Immigration officials in Mexico have been reported to be torturing Central Americans and others in an effort to stop illegal aliens from coming into their country.

The people of Guatemala have just elected a complete outsider as their nation’s next president, selecting in a landslide election television comedian Jimmy Morales to represent them.

An angry mob of hundreds dragged the mayor of an indigenous town in rural Guatemala out of his home and burned him alive after burning down at least six buildings, police say. The event occurred in the immediate aftermath of a shooting attack against an old political rival.

The U.S. Customs and Border Patrol announced Thursday it turned over a previously-deported illegal alien to Guatemalan authorities wanted for raping and killing a 14-year-old, and murdering her father in June.

Guatemala’s Congress lifted President Otto Perez Molina’s immunity of office on Tuesday, opening him up to possible prosecution in a widening customs corruption scandal that has rocked his administration and the country’s political system.

A stable Central America is highly beneficial to Texas and the United States. The CICIG, a UN funded investigation group, has been very active in Guatemala. In May, President Otto Perez Molina asked for the resignation of several high level public officials.
