PICS: Baby Alfie Mourned in UK

LONDON (AP) — Alfie Evans, a British toddler with a degenerative brain condition whose parents lost a legal battle to keep him on life support at a Vatican hospital, was mourned with balloons set free in the sky and prayers from the pope after he died Saturday weeks shy of his second birthday.

Sea Lion Drags Fisherman Overboard

“We’re starting to see the behavior here on the dock with the seals a little more aggressive than normally,” said local Erik Kopp after seeing a man hauled off in a stretcher from San Diego’s Mission Bay Channel Sunday afternoon. The man was holding a fish in his hand when a sea lion jumped up and bit the fish and the man’s hand, dragging the man underwater as well.

Unrelenting Measles Outbreak Climbs to 107

More measles cases are appearing by the day in an outbreak that began mid-December in the traveler-magnet Magic Kingdom in Anaheim, California. In numbers updated Friday, the California Department of Public Health (CDPH) reports 91 cases confirmed within California and has reported 16 outside the state for a total 107 measles-infected persons.

Ebola Infection Suspected at UC-Davis

The University of California Davis Medical Center received a suspected case of Ebola Thursday morning when a patient exhibiting symptoms consistent with the disease was transferred from Mercy General Hospital in Sacramento.
