Citizens United at CPAC: A Hub of Conservative Activity

Amid the droves of attendees that descended upon National Harbor for the 50th anniversary of the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) last week, Citizens United attracted thousands of these individuals to its events.

Over the course of the conference, Citizens United presented a program that included an array of prominent conservative speakers at events interspersed with a schedule of our award-winning documentary films at the Citizens United Theater.

A crowded room fell quiet during the 2nd Annual Tribute to Andrew Breitbart as they watched scenes from the life of the happy conservative warrior who left us far too soon. Following the film, Breitbart News Executive Chairman Stephen K. Bannon and I presented radio talk show host Mark Levin with the inaugural “Andrew Breitbart Defender of the First Amendment Award” to loud cheers and applause. The crowd rose to their feet when Mark took the podium and again during and after his impassioned acceptance speech.

This set the trend for large gatherings and powerful ovations that would continue throughout the conference. Events like the Celebrating American Entrepreneurship Reception hosted by Donald Trump later that day were met with a packed room filled with enthusiastic attendees. The Citizens United CPAC Theater also featured highly attended documentaries filled out in between and on into the night.

Friday saw even more featured guests like former Congressman and Lt. Colonel Allen West, who opened the day with the Honoring Military Heroes Reception and spoke to a transfixed audience. This was directly followed by a showing of the film Gift of Life that included a live introduction by Governor Mike Huckabee. Newt and Callista Gingrich presented Nine Days that Changed the World, the film they made with Citizens United that commemorates the 35th anniversary of Pope John Paul II’s 1979 pilgrimage to Poland. The day continued with a presentation of Senator Rick Santorum’s Our Sacred Honor, which explores the meaning of our founding documents.

Citizens United Theater was a great success! Our many events attracted thousands of participants to come together to celebrate conservatism and President Reagan’s three-legged stool of a strong national defense, free enterprise, and strong family values.
