Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel told Obama he needs to stand with Democrats in the House and Senate who support gun control.
Emanuel pointed out that mid-term elections following a gun control push have been bad for those supporting gun control in the past, and 2014 won't be any different.
Speaking at a Center for American Progress event, Emanuel said: "Don't walk away from them. Support them."
There certainly will be Senate Democrats in seven states who will need support if they support gun control. Democrats in the states of Alaska, Arkansas, Louisiana, Montana, North Carolina, South Dakota, and West Virginia will be up for re-election in 2014. These particular seats will be much easier for Republicans to pick up if their current holders side with Obama on gun control.
Emanuel said the problem Democrats face is that even the mention of "sensible [gun] legislation" puts voters in a panic.
That could be because "sensible [gun] legislation" under Obama looks a lot like Chicago gun control.
