RNC Files FOIA Request For Benghazi Emails

The Republican National Committee (RNC) has filed a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request for Benghazi emails “between Obama’s reelection campaign and the State Department” on the day of the attack, the days around which Ambassador Susan Rice blamed the attack on YouTube video, and the dates of all the presidential debates.

Signed by Jonathan Waclawski, Associate Counsel for RNC, the request asks for:

Any and all emails or other documents containing the terms “Libya” and/or “Benghazi” dated between September 11, 2012 and November 7, 2012 directed from or to U.S. Department of State employees originating from or addressed to persons whose email addresses end in either “barackobama.com” or “dnc.org.”

Waclawksi wrote that the disclosure of this information “is in the public interest because it is likely to contribute significantly to the public understanding of the operation or activities of the government.”

He also made clear that this request is not a partisan one, or one that is “primarily” in the Republican National Committee’s “commercial interest.”
