Biden Calls Iowa State Rep-Elect During World Series

On Wednesday, Vice President Joe Biden called an Iowa State Representative-elect during Game 1 of the Word Series between the St. Louis Cardinals and the Boston Red Sox, stoking speculation about his 2016 presidential ambitions.

State Rep.-elect Brian Meyer (D-Des Moines) said he was watching the World Series at Applebee’s when he received a call from Biden.

“I was obviously surprised, and I didn’t think anyone was paying attention to a little special election in the middle of Iowa. It was a pleasant surprise to hear from the vice president,” he told The Huffington Post.

He said that he supported Biden during the 2008 Iowa caucuses and said there was “no discussion” of 2016 and he did not “know why he called other than to congratulate me and wish me well.”

Meyer first posted about Biden’s call on his Facebook page and said, “at first I thought it was a joke, but it was definitely him.”
