'Red Dawn' Remake Invades Home Video Outlets This Week

The Wolverines are coming to a flat-screen TV near you.

Red Dawn, last year’s action-soaked remake of the 1984 cult hit, is now available on Blu-ray and DVD. The film, which stars Chris Hemsworth (The Avengers), Josh Peck, Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Josh Hutcherson, is an updated tale of America under siege.

The film suffered from some serious shelf time after getting caught up in the MGM bankruptcy fight, the same snafu that delayed the release of the latest James Bond smash, Skyfall.

The remake made a respectable $44 million given the production team’s late enemy switch from China to North Korea and the mostly sour reviews from critics who couldn’t applaud a film featuring young Americans beating back an invading army.

Hemsworth is the main attraction here, but look for a cameo from former gridiron great Mark Schlereth of ESPN fame as the football team’s fiery coach.

The Blu-ray packages comes with a DVD of the film as well as UltraViolet and iTunes digital copies.
